You will be working in a fast-paced team orientated environment on a variety of projects across regional NSW for MGH. In this role, you will have direct interaction with business stakeholders, consultants, and council throughout the entire development process from development concept to completion of works.The Senior Town Planner Position is full time position based at Newcastle or Sydney. The position will require travel to various sites as required. The role is suited to an experienced planner (minimum 5 years), who has the ability to confidently manage external project teams and negotiate positive outcomes, aligning with the objectives of each proposal and the MGP business unit desired outcomes. Previous/current experience from a consulting background would be favourable, but is not essential.Your daily duties would include:Interpret relevant local and state government planning strategies, policies, directions, and legislationUndertake desktop site analysis and research in relation to relevant town planning provisions, development opportunities and constraintsPrepare Statement of Environmental Effects, co-ordinate supporting documentation and reports relating to proposed developmentCo-ordinate fee proposals and supporting technical advice for various developments and their approval pathways, including but not limited to DA’s, SWC’s, CDC’s, CC’s and SC’s.Engaging with consultants to assist in the provision of advice and reporting deliverables on technical matters as they relate to the assessment of Development Applications in a manner that aims to achieve MGP’s desired outcomes.Design development, documentation, management of projects and their associated delivery as requiredExperience in planning assessment and demonstrated ability to assess and analyse complex planning matters and determine solutions in an effective and timely way.Ability to negotiate outcomes on applications with considerations to the applicant, community needs, and in consistency with the relevant planning provisions and legislation.Negotiate and communicate with all levels of management and staff, government agencies, non-government organisations, stakeholders and the community both verbally and in writingDemonstrated ability to build positive collaborative relationships and consult, negotiate and communicate with all levels of management and staff, government agencies, non-government organisations, stakeholders and the community both verbally and in writingReview building and subdivision design documentation, drawings, and reports to ensure acceptable development in accordance with MGP’s aims and objectives is being proposedAbility to work independently while being able to manage competing priorities.What you'll require to succeed:A tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or related field and/or commensurate demonstrated experience in lieu of formal qualifications.Unrestricted Australian working rights.Current Australian Driver’s License.Eligibility for membership of the Planning Institute of Australia.Reading and understanding technical drawings and diagrams.Comprehensive knowledge of the NSW planning system and development assessment process.Proficient oral/written communication skills including the ability to write complex and/or technical reports in plain English.
